Sound is more than atmosphere - Some of the most important people in the theatre are the ones the audience never sees.
Our Sound & Lighting team helps create the atmosphere of every production. It's a powerful storytelling tool that shapes the emotional and psychological world of a production eg tension and rhythm.
Sound and lighting decision and preperation is started long before the performances. Much of technical rehearsal involves hours of defining the emotion and tone, working with the directors vision, mapping music and sound cues to the script, intergrating music seamlessly with performance.
They make sure the audience can hear what they need to hear, while lighting helps set the mood, focus attention and transform the stage from one scene to the next.
The team may be involved with:
microphones and sound effects
music playback
lighting cues
spotlights
technical rehearsals
operating equipment during performances
solving the occasional last-minute technical mystery!
It can be technical, but it can also be learned.
If you enjoy gadgets, computers, music, lighting or problem-solving, this is a fascinating side of theatre to become involved in.
